How Smart Monitoring Use AI to Provide the Fastest Video Alarm Response
The biggest challenge to any Monitoring Centre is the sheer volume of false activations generated by Remote CCTV Systems. Traditionally, providing this service meant dealing with false alarms caused by bad weather, cobwebs, rubbish, insects, animals, bad lighting, passing headlights… we could go on. This could result in delays in getting to real alarm events as they became buried in a deluge of false alarms that came in before them, which all had to be checked.
In latter years, the emergence of AI technology built into CCTV Cameras or NVR’s has helped to cut down these alarms coming from sites. You can either upgrade to a new system, or add the ‘AI detection bit’ onto your existing system. As with all technology, some are better than this than others. Even if you do that, and your site is cleaned up from false alarms, what about the hundreds of existing older technologies that are still monitoring sites all over Ireland? Alarms from your clean site may still be delayed as a result of the activations from all of those still being sent in at the same time
The Smart Monitoring Way – Reducing ALL False Activations by 98%
In 2021, Smart Monitoring introduced AI onto our own platform. This means that every single CCTV Camera Alarm that is sent into our Control Room from all systems new and old are analysed by the AI Platform to determine the likelihood of it being an actual trespasser and not a false activation. This is state of the art AI, way ahead of anything in a traditional NVR.
Constantly improving and constantly learning, it consistently filters circa 98%+ of ALL False Activations on a nightly basis… that means that our Controllers are only dealing with less than 2% of all of the Video Alarm Events that are sent into us from every CCTV System from all over Ireland… which in turn means that when a trespasser is detected by your system and it sends that Video Alarm into us, we are asking them to politely leave with a Live Audio Warning within the fastest possible response times!
Why Smart Monitoring Use’s Thermal Imaging Detection
As good as CCTV Cameras have become in recent years especially with the advent of AI, there are still two things to consider when it comes to the actual detection of a human being… Distance and Environmental Conditions. Standard and even AI cameras are restricted in the distances that they will recognise a human, just because you can see someone on your screen does not mean that the system will see them as a human, as invariably their image on the screen is too small to be processed.
Now, throw in nighttime… that ‘Detection Distance’ is reduced… you could be down to 20 meters detection… that’s a fact! Now, throw in bad weather… ‘Detection Distance’ further reduced! Fog, mist, of frost? You could be down to zero meters detection. Primarily, this is because the Infra-Red used on a camera to see at night time will illuminate the rain etc.so you cannot see anything behind it. This is not in all scenarios, there are many factors that contribute to this including shelter, lighting, mounting height etc.
Thermal Imaging Cameras have allowed us to protect different target distances depending on what the client is trying to protect. Depending on the camera we use, we have tested up to 150-meter detection in completely dark conditions with no ambient light. In addition, our Thermal Imaging Cameras do not care about the rain, mist, and fog… they simply keep watch straight though it… and that is why we choose this technology to help us Protect You Now!
